FAQs

Who should take this course?

Anyone who wants to learn more about managing their money!

Why should I take this course?

Whether you're starting out or starting over, rich or poor, young or old, experienced or beginner, this course will help with information and tips to get a better handle on your money.

Didn't I already learn all this in school?

Unfortunately, less than half of our nation's high schools teach the practical knowledge we need to manage our household finances. And even if you did learn these things in school, a refresher never hurts.

What kinds of things will I learn?

You'll learn how to set goals, create a financial plan to achieve them, set up a budget, shop for insurance, improve your credit score, find help when you need it and a whole lot more.

How can I sign up to take the course?

You must be registered for the course by a certified credit counselor who has previously established a relationship with Life or Debt.

How long is the course?

The video itself runs about the length of the typical movie. But unlike a movie, Life or Debt strongly suggests that you do some "homework" like reviewing outside websites, setting up a spending plan, etc. So plan on spending a few hours with us.

Should I select High, Medium or Low?

The higher the speed you select, the better the video will look. If you have a broadband connection (Cable or DSL modem) try the high speed and see if it plays smoothly. If it doesn't, you might have to go with medium or low. If you have a dial-up connection, you can try the low speed, but if it's not working well, you might want to take the text version of the course.

What requirements will this course fulfill?

Life or Debt fulfills the U.S. DOJ's EOUST requirements for Pre-Discharge Bankruptcy Education. If you're here because you're filing a bankruptcy, upon completion you'll get the necessary certificate from the credit counseling agency that referred you.

Do I have to take every quiz?

Yes, you must take every quiz, but don't worry ... you won't be graded on these.

Do I have to answer every question?

Yes, you do have to answer every question to move from one part of Life or Debt to another.

Do I have to watch every chapter?

Yes, in order to take each chapter's quiz, you must watch that chapter first.

Can I watch each chapter more than once?

We encourage it! If you watch a chapter and don't feel confident that you've learned the information, watch it again. And if you miss the answers to any chapter review questions, that's a strong signal that you should watch the chapter again.

When am I tested?

You will be give two tests, a Pre and Post test. The Pretest is given when you first log-in to Life or Debt, before you've watched anything. This is to assess your current financial knowledge and will not be factored into your successfully passing this course. The Posttest will become available to you once you have spent a minimum of 2 hours within the virtual classroom and completed every chapter quiz. This is the final test, and is what will be used to judge your passing or failing of this course. Take your time, answer every question, and good luck!

When can I take the Post-Test?

The post test will become available to you once you have completed each chapter's quiz and accumulated at least 2 hours of time in the classroom.
